Description
Stefan Gec's work primarily deals with issues of migration and displacement, using the sea as a metaphor to reflect on political concerns and questions. In post Cold War Europe, Gec draws on the now obsolete symbols of destruction, such as nuclear submarines, to create new, poetic structures. This book covers Gec's more recent work, incuding the "Fragment/Vengeance" and "Faedm". "Fragment/Vengeance" was commissioned for Barrow in Furness, a town that has recently celebrated 100 years of submarine manufacture. The work takes the form of a computer-generated animation and a six foot long scale model of "Vengeance", the last Trident nuclear submarine to be built there. "Faedm" consists of a globe, six feet in circumference, its surface distorted with creases following exposure to simulated deep sea pressure. Transcribed across it are hundreds of figures, each one relating to the depth in fathoms of the world seas. - from Amzon
