Inspired by the refrain from the Chant de guerre pour larmée du Rhin this exhibitions title embodies a desire to forge a community: the creation of a platform for discussion that will foster encounters between artist and spectator, while highlighting the common power shared between them. The gestation process behind To the Arts, Citizens! involved several stages. The project contemplated a historical arc commencing with the early avant-garde movements in 1900 and then tracing the relationship between art and politics over the course of the twentieth century.
